Organization history

The Tashkent State Russian Opera and Ballet Theater dates back to the decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the Turk ASSR on August 24, 1918 on the nationalization for educational purposes of the building of the former private circus "Coliseum" with all the equipment in it and its transfer to the Commissariat for Public Education. By the Decree of the Central Executive Committee of the Soviets of the TurkASSR on November 26, 1919, the Coliseum Theater was transferred to the jurisdiction of the People's Commissariat of Education for the construction of an exemplary regional theater in it. By the same decree, the opera group and the drama troupe, along with the orchestra, choirs and dressing rooms, were united and transferred to the jurisdiction of the People's Commissariat of Education to create a single regional theater group from them. According to the decision of the joint meeting of the Tashkent Council, together with state, party and public organizations dated March 18, 1920, the Soviet Theater (formerly the Coliseum) was renamed the Soviet Theater named after Ya. M. Sverdlov. The theater merged with the Uzbek Musical Theater comedies and satires and acted under the name of the Uzbek State Musical Theater named after Sverdlov in 1933, and from May 5, 1935 under the name of the United State Theater named after Sverdlov of the People's Commissariat of Education of the Uzbek SSR. Since March 1936, the Sverdlov Theater again became an independent theater, by the Order of the Department of Arts under the Council of Ministers of the Uzbekistan SSR dated March 15, 1948, the theater was discontinued on April 10, 1948. In 1948, on the basis of the association of the Ya. M. Sverdlov and the Uzbek Opera and Ballet Theater, the Uzbek State Order of the Red Banner of Labor Opera and Ballet Theater named after Alisher Navoi was created.
